The University of Wisconsin-Parkside, also referred to as simply UW-Parkside, is a four-year public university located in Kenosha, which is a city in the US state of Wisconsin, that serves as the county seat of Kenosha County, with a population of nearly 98 000 inhabitants, estimated during the 2009 census, fact which makes it the 4th largest city in the state and on the western shore of Lake Michigan.
UW-Parkside was established in 1968 and it is part of the University of Wisconsin System. It was created by an act of the Wisconsin Legislature in 1965 and accepted its first on-site students in the fall of 1969. It currently offers its students, who number approximately 5100, of which nearly 4900 are undergraduates, undergraduate majors and minors in areas of specialization such as art, biological sciences, business management, computer science and many other.
UW-Parkside's athletic teams are known as the Rangers and they compete in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II and the Great Lakes Valley Conference, the university being the only NCAA Division II school in Wisconsin. Their distinctive colors are green, black and white.
Over the years, the University of Wisconsin-Parkside has produced 475 All-Americans, 75 national champions, 34 academic All-Americans and four Olympians.
